My Personal Fundraising Page

Dear Friends,

On June 10th 2017, I will embark on an incredible seven day cycling trip through the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains from Alamosa over Wolf Creek Pass to Durango over Coal Bank Pass, Molas Pass, Red Mountain Pass to Montrose, to Gunnison and over Monarch Pass to Salida. 447 miles and 32,337 vertical feet.

I am part of a committed team who will participate in this year’s Colorado Ride the Rockies to help raise money for the homeless in Colorado. We are Team Samaritan House! Funds raised will benefit Catholic Charities’ four homeless shelters, including Samaritan House in Denver, Fr Ed Judy House Denver, The Mission Fort Collins and Guadalupe Community Center Greeley . These shelters provide 199,459  warm beds annually and 731,751 hot meals annually to the Colorado homeless. The ultimate goal of all Catholic Charities’ shelters is to help residents become self-reliant by providing needed individualized assistance.

Why am I doing this?  I am truly blessed. I have never been truly cold in my life and I have never skipped a meal in my life, (please no comments about that not hurting me!!!)

My occupation is partially associated in the home business and I have more than I need as a result. I want to give something back to my fellow American citizens.  My father bought me a used Carlton bicycle in 1978 when I was 13 in Omagh, Ireland for 45 pounds sterling and essentially I have never been off a bicycle since.  So, this ride to benefit the Colorado homeless is a good opportunity for me to do such.

Another motivation for this ride is, knowing the difference this journey will make to our most vulnerable people. The fastest growing homeless group, are ladies over retirement age. These are ladies who may never have been homeless in their lives but who are today. They are the most defenseless and vulnerable on our Denver streets.  Each dollar we raise truly changes the lives of the individuals and families who call the shelters home. Each meal provided at Samaritan house costs about $1.60.

My goal is to raise $10,000.

If you want to see the people you will help if you sponsor me, please drive around 2301 Lawrence Street in Denver. Many of the people you see are literally “carrying their home in two carrier bags”.
