Festival Information

Welcome To Our Dragon Boat Family!

Join us at The Dream Factory River City Dragon Boat Festival to help raise funds to help make dreams come true for kids battling life-threatening illnesses here in Manitoba. Kids like Sophie. Sophie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at 9 years old. Her treatment schedule has been rigorous and her cancer is aggressive. She dreams of visiting her grandmother in Japan. You can help make that happen.

The festival takes place from June 5th-7th, 2020 at the Manitoba Canoe & Kayak Club on 80 Churchill Dr. in Winnipeg (MAP). The regular festival will begin Friday and end Saturday. The school festival will take place Sunday. Friday racing starts at 6:30 PM. Festival starts on Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 AM.

Online Registration is live! With our quick and easy registration process, you can sign your team up for the festival and have your fundraising page set up and ready to go! Team Requirements:

  • Maximum of twenty five (25) Crew Members on Team Roster.
  • Maximum of 20 paddlers in boat, plus a drummer and steersperson (we will provide one for you free of charge, if needed).
  • Minimum of 16 paddlers in boat, plus a drummer and steersperson 
  • 1 Team Captain should be selected.
  • 1 Team Fundraising Coordinator (suggested).
  • Mixed Divisions Must have a minimum of 8 males and 8 females.
  • Minimum age of requirement is 14 years of age (written consent and waiver must be signed by parent or legal guardian).

Team Categories:

Mixed Recreational: A team with a minimum of 8 paddlers of each gender on board, that practice only for the festival (2-4 sessions). Max 25 paddlers on the team, 20 paddlers in the boat, plus a drummer and steerer.

Corporate: A “mixed” team that practices only for the festival, and wishes to race other corporate teams.

All Female: A female team. Could have a male steerer, if need be.

Club Team: A team set up specifically to compete in dragon boat festivals, and typically practice at least once a week throughout the season.

Competitive Team: A team that practices more than once  a week, trains year ‘round, and may race nationally and internationally.

Team Registration Fee (by May 1st)- $950
It is suggeted that teams raise a minimum of $2,500, or $150/paddler.

*All registration fees will be used to offset the costs of the festival.
*All pledges are used to to make a dream come true for Manitoba kids who are bravely battling life-threatening illnesses. Kids like Sophie.

Registration Fee Includes:

Dragon Boat Use

  • Equipped with a dragon head (for race heats only).
  • Drum and drumstick (not used during practices).
  • Paddles and personal floatation devices (PFDs) provided.

Practice Sessions

  • Take place at the MB Canoe & Kayak Centre, weekday evenings in May.
  • Two practices with an experienced coach (no previous dragon boat experience required).
  • Rules and regulations of festival explained.
  • Information and support for fundraising.
  • You might get wet! Dress accordingly. Changing room available.

Festival

Friday - Sunday, June 5th - 7th. Friday 6:30 – 9:00 PM, Saturday is 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM. School festival take place on Sunday beginning at 9:00 AM .

  • Festival held at 80 Churchill Drive.
  • Safety boats and personnel onsite.
  • Each team gets 3 race heats, weather permitting.
  • Awards for Top Fundraising Teams and Individuals.
  • Prizes awarded to division winners based on timed results.
  • Rules of racing administered by trained race officials.

Waiver Forms

Available online, on this site! A link will be sent to the Team Captain to be shared with all paddlers, once the team is registered.

Refund Policy

  • No Refunds if the festival is cancelled due to weather condition.
  • Cancellation will be determined by the festival committee.
