I didn't know a whole lot about the Ronald McDonald House until my college roommate's daughter, Tinsley, was born with a condition called HLHS -- hypoplastic left heart syndrome. It meant that her heart wouldn't be able to pump blood to her body properly unless she had heart surgery -- which she did, soon after she was born. Her family commuted to MUSC for treatment, but were unable to stay at a Ronald McDonald House, and looking for other arrangements was a stress I wish they didn't have to bear.

Tinsley is doing well these days, but her story sparked my interest. As the Causes & Philanthropy Editor for Greenville360, I get to go behind the scenes and learn about how our city's non-profits do the beautiful work they do, and the intentionality behind the way RMHC Charities lifts burdens from families' shoulders while their child is receiving life-saving treatment is unlike anything I've ever seen.

There is a suggested donation of $10 per night to stay at the house, while the actual cost per night is $89 -- but no family has ever been or will ever be turned away because of financial barriers.

And with the house's new expansion, TWICE as many families will get to call this place a home away from home in a time when they need it most. To celebrate, let's raise some support for #KeepingFamiliesClose. Every dollar goes so far, and time and heartspace are so valuable here, too! Come for a visit, and learn more -- you'll be glad you did!
