My Story

Thank you for visiting my Fundraising page for the 2020 Polar Plunge!  I am going to be jumping into Lake Michigan on March 1st to help raise money for this wonderful organization that does so much good for so many. My inspiration for joining this team is a little 4 year old girl, Eileen Schaefers, and her parents, Colleen and Scott Schaefers.  Eileen was born with Down Syndrome and to say she was born a fighter is an understatement.  In Eileen's 4 short years so far I have been witness to not only her courage and strength in achieving so many milestones, but I have also been witness to the supreme example of love, acceptance, joy, and humility from her parents; true love warriors for sweet Eileen.  Eileen will no doubt have an amazing future--she is so very lucky to have her parents and siblings by her side always.  She also, through the efforts of the Special Olympics, will have the opportunity to compete in Olympic-type sports,  giving her the  opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with her family and other Special Olympic athletes.  You probably have heard of the saying "lean in".  To "lean in" means to to grab opportunities without hesitation. An older meaning for "lean in" is to incline into something, such as a skier leaning in at a turn or pedestrian leaning in to the wind. The motto of our polar plunge team is "Eileen In".....Eileen and her parents Colleen and Scott have leaned into every challenge facing them and are winning.  Team Eileen In is going to grab this Polar Plunge opportunity, without hesitation, and will come out better on the other side; colder and in need of dry clothes and a good laugh, but so much better.  Thanks for your help in getting us to our financial goals for the Special Olympics!

Join us for the 2020 Chicago Polar Plunge presented by Jackson on Sunday, March 1st for the 20th Anniversary! Take the challenge and jump in Lake Michigan for Special Olympics Chicago! All are welcome to join us, whether you go knee deep, waist high, or take the full plunge.

Be #FREEZINFORAREASON and support the 7,500+ special olympians who compete year-round in the city of Chicago. All funds raised will benefit the Special Olympics Chicago athletes, covering program costs such as transportation, sports equipment, team uniforms and food. Through your participation, people with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to discover new strengths, abilities and success.

Plunge as an individual alongside other supporters, join a team or create your own fearless team. Recruit friends, family and co-workers to #MAKEASPLASH. Teams with 20 members or more will be awarded for their efforts with a free, round-trip bus. Teams that raise $20,000 or moe are eligible to receive a 20x20 tent. All are invited to the post-plunge "Melt Down Party" with music, food, cash bar and more!
