Hello! Thank you for reaching my fundraiser page. My name is Ryan Milkman, and I am running the Sandy Sprint Philadelphia 5K, unless someone informs me that there’s a scenic bike ride option (I've checked the event site several times, to no avail). I’m participating and raising money for the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, in honor and remembrance of my mom, Jodie, who lost her battle with cancer last November. While there are a plethora of reasons to support this foundation, in its fight to end ovarian cancer and support those currently battling this cruel disease, Team Jodie’s Phamily (a Philly portmanteau inspired by my mom’s love for the Philadelphia Phillies, and of course, the city of Philadelphia) has but one: because Mom deeply believed in, and lived her life, helping others. Those who knew my mom knew there wasn’t a thing in the world she wouldn’t do for her friends and family. Her persistent, selfless dedication to others ultimately led to her involvement with cancer nonprofits after her diagnosis in November of 2022. Mom was proud of her involvement in these communities, and despite the unimaginable difficulties she herself faced over the last two years, she never wavered in being an advocate and supporter. It is this very strength Mom showed, to do right by and to be there for others, that those who can happily say knew my mom are left to carry forward. We are proud to have Sandy Rollman’s event as an opportunity to do so, where with every donation and contribution, we hope to not only continue Mom’s goals, but also preserve our cherished, lasting memory of her.
