Some people leave a mark on your heart that never fades. My sister Jodie was one of those people, and I carry her with me every single day. On April 25, I’ll be lacing up my running sneakers and heading to Philly to run a 5K in support of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, raising funds for ovarian cancer research, awareness, and support. This run is deeply personal to me because I’m doing it in memory of Jodie. It’s hard to believe that a full year has passed since I first ran this 5K in her honor, and even harder to believe that I’ve now spent more than that long without her. Time keeps moving forward, but the love I have for my sister—and the impact she had on my life and the lives of so many others—remains just as strong. Jodie faced ovarian cancer with incredible courage and strength. She wasn’t just my sister—she was my best friend, my confidant, and the person who always had my back no matter what life threw my way. Her love, support, and strength meant everything to me, and losing her has left a space in my heart that will never be filled. Running this race is one small way I can honor her life and the amazing person she was. Every step I take will be for Jodie and for the many families whose lives have been touched by ovarian cancer.
