Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a one-mile walk in heels to raise funds to support survivors of sexual trauma. Whether you decide to start or join a team or walk as an individual, every dollar you raise will provide safety and healing for those we serve. AND - We promise you will have a lot of fun along the way!

Why We Walk

Too many Alaskans are victims of sexual trauma.

According to the 2020 Alaska Victimization Survey, 57.7% of Alaska women have experienced IPV, sexual violence, or both in their lifetime, which is four times higher than the national average.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Alaskan children are the victims of sexual assault at a rate six times higher than the national average.

At STAR, we are committed to responding to the needs of survivors, while integrating prevention and education programs with a goal of reducing harm to all Alaskans.  Will you join us?

About Walk a Mile: Put Yourself in Her Shoes™

Since 2001, individuals and their families around the world have joined the award-winning Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence.

Originally designed to get men involved in ending men's sexualized violence, we invite EVERYONE to Walk with us to raise awareness about the serious causes, effects, and remediations for sexualized violence. We recognize that men are not the only perpetrators of sexualized violence, and we know that women aren't the only victims. This is why people of every age and gender are welcome - young or old, tall or small.  We need YOU to help us continue our work to prevent and respond to sexual violence in our community.

Proceeds from the event will go directly to support STAR's client services and prevention programs. STAR provides 24/7 crisis intervention, medical and court accompaniment, and ongoing support services for individuals in our community who are impacted by sexual violence.  STAR is also striving to reduce sexual assault and abuse in Alaska through prevention and education programs for people of all ages in K-12 schools, adults in workplaces, and community groups.
