Every $450 you raise provides a new bed and Dream Kit—complete with bedding, books, and a stuffed animal—to a child in the Twin Cities. 

You'll help us reach more families and expand our community of support. Every gift, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal of delivering 1,900 beds to children in 2025. We’ve also got fun incentives and special recognition to celebrate your impact along the way!

We know asking for donations may feel uncomfortable at first. But when you share your passion for helping kids sleep better, others are often inspired to give. You won’t be doing it alone! We make it easy to get started.

Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donor, every dollar you raise for Steps for Sleep will be matched—up to $20,000! That means when you ask your friends, family, and coworkers to support your Steps for Sleep fundraising page, their donations go twice as far.

Fundraising Tips

Thank you for taking Steps for Sleep for your own healthy sleep and to support My Very Own Bed's mission of providing beds to kids.  Your fundraising efforts help us reach our goal of delivering 1900 beds to kids this year! 

1. Use Our Hashtag
Share your journey on Instagram and Facebook. Tag My Very Own BEd (@myveryownbed on Instagram and LinkedIn), and use #StepsforSleep to show your support and connect with others in the community.

2. Customize Your Personal Fundraising Page
Make your page stand out by sharing why you’re passionate about My Very Own Bed. Add a photo or video to personalize your page!

3. Send Emails
Once you sign up to fundraise, we'll send you some email templates you can copy, personalize and paste to send to friends, family and colleagues. 

4. Start a Facebook Fundraiser
Create a Facebook fundraiser to engage your network and automatically collect donations. To set it up, go to your personal page, select “Manage My Page,” and then “Share on Facebook.” Share why you’re participating and update your content regularly to encourage support.

5. Donate to Yourself
Kickstart your fundraising by making the first donation yourself. It demonstrates your commitment and can inspire others to give. Visit your personal page and click “Donate Now” to contribute.

6. Set a Fundraising Goal
Establish a clear goal and share it with your network. This helps motivate supporters and track your progress.

7. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask
Make a list of potential donors, including family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and local businesses. Remember, it often takes multiple requests to receive a response!

8. Matching Gifts
Check if your company or your donors' companies offer matching gifts. This can double the impact of every donation!

10. Say Thank You
Show appreciation to your donors with a handwritten card, an email, or a social media post. Personal thank-yous go a long way in making your supporters feel valued.

Fundraising FAQs

What is Steps for Sleep? 

It is a community celebration of My Very Own Bed's vision – that all children have beds so they can sleep well, dream, and find comfort in a place of their own. We are bringing together anyone interested in supporting the mission while learning more about how to improve their sleep and overall health and well-being.

Steps for Sleep includes a series of 15-minute Movement Moments, a Wellness Fair, and fun activities for all ages. You can see more details and information under the "Event Home" and "Wellness Fair" tabs.

How can I participate?

  • We encourage everyone to register now to attend in person Saturday, September 13 from 9:00 -11:30 a.m. at DeLaSalle High School.

  • If you are unable to attend in person, you can register to "Walk Anywhere" . Take steps for your own healthy sleep anytime during the month of September. 

  • Walk Anywhere participants could consider hosting their own Community Walk Anywhere event.

  • Anyone can help us fundraise between now and September 13, using this platform.

Why do you need help fundraising?

A successful peer-to-peer campaign has the potential to spread awareness about our work extensively, as supporters share their fundraising pages with their friends and family. This heightened exposure allows us to expand our audience and attract more donors than we could achieve on our own.

When would I fundraise?

Any time between now and September 13. Most successful campaigns take 2-4 weeks to really gain traction. Pick a window of time that works for you to focus your outreach work.

How do I get started?

Click on the above "Fundraise Now" button to register for peer-to-peer fundaising. From there, you will be given access to your personal fundraising page that has a templated message that, quite frankly, you could just send out directly. But we encourage you to personalize your page a bit with your own experiences with My Very Own Bed or why you choose to support us. You can also add your own pictures (or ask us if we have one of you to add). People who personalize their page raise 7-18x more than those who do not.

How do I set a fundraising goal?

We encourage you to set a realistic, but optimistic goal.

We have set the default fundraising goal at $450 because $450 provides one more child with a new bed and Dream Kit. We encourage all fundraisers to strive to raise at least that much. Collectively, we hope to raise at least $20,000 through peer-to-peer fundraising.    

You could add some sort of gimmick to your campaign: If I reach $X, I will . . . . [wear a tutu to Steps for Sleep]. Creativity is the limit here!

What if my friends prefer to donate via check, cash, or their employee-giving sites?

That's great! And maybe their employer would match their gifts. Checks should be mailed to or dropped off at My Very Own Bed, 34 13th Ave. NE, Suite 106, Minneapolis, MN 55413. Collect the cash and deliver to My Very Own Bed directly as well.
