#Strides4Jimmy

At the age of 79, in the fall of 2019, my dad developed some carpal tunnel-like symptoms and nerve pain. By January, he had a slight limp. By February, he was hospitalized for diagnosis. In April 2020, he died from a progressive, undiagnosed conditions. Days after he died, we got results from an RT-QuIC test that confirmed CJD. Due to Covid in its infancy, that test had sad in a lab for a couple months as a low priority. Through quite an ordeal due to Covid, we were able to secure a brain autopsy to confirm Sporadic CJD vv2. To all who knew Jimmy (my dad), we are never surprised to hear him associated with the phrase "one in a million." This just was not the one we, or anyone, want to hear. Prion disease is in need of much increased research and funding. Help us honor his memory and fight for others.

About Strides for CJD

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Funds raised support our programs including:

  • Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
  • Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
  • Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
