Strides For Frankie Team Page

Join us for a walk/run in honor of my mom, Frankie Smillie, who passed away in 2018 after a brief and courageous battle with CJD. Currently this devastating disease has no treatment or cure. Funds from this event will go toward the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, to provide family support, medical education and research programs.

If you'd like to participate:

  1. Click "Register" on this page
  2. Sign up for an "individual or small group run/walk"

Donations
The goal of this event is to raise money and awareness. If you're in a position to donate, thank you so much in advance! Any amount helps, and all donations will go toward our team fundraising goal. If you're not able to donate, no problem! A major goal of this event is to raise awareness, so we'd love your help in spreading the word and showcasing your support during the event.

The (virtual) event
There's four potential opportunities to join in:

  1. If you're in the Bay Area and would like to join, sometime between October 2 and 9, I will be organizing a small walk in the area. It will be a nice opportunity to raise awareness and hang out together. Details will be shared in the Facebook group
  2. If you're not in the Bay Area and can't join, sometime between October 2 and 9, wear your Strides for CJD shirt and post photos or videos of yourself and your family in Strides t-shirts, and spread awareness on social media. I'll share ideas for posts in the Facebook group if it's helpful.
  3. If you're not able to donate and don't feel comfortable posting to social media, you can simply help to raise awarness by wearing your shirt for a day while you're out running errands, etc.
  4. If you don't want to participate in the virtual walk, but do want to donate, visit this page. Thank you!

Thank you for your support!

About Strides for CJD

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Funds raised support our programs including:

  • Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
  • Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
  • Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
