My dad, Jerry Hartman died on Tuesday, Feb 22, 2022 after a months long journey with CJD. ❤️
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare fatal degenerative neurological disease that is caused by prions. We first noticed his symptoms in April, just forgetfulness and balance issues. By July, he could barely walk. In August, he was diagnosed. September I resigned from teaching in Vallarta and moved home to take care of him with my mom. He slowly progressed after that, but had a turning point over the New Year. His last month was incredibly hard for all of us.
My dad was my best friend, the person I turned to for so much, and an inspiration to so many. I miss him. ❤️

About Strides for CJD

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Funds raised support our programs including:

  • Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
  • Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
  • Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
