Strides for CJD 2024 Team Jerry Yaffa
Dear Family and Friends,
I am reaching out to share something close to my heart. This year, I have created a team in honor of my father, Jerry Yaffa, for the Strides for CJD fundraising event in Morris County, New Jersey.
As many of you know, my father battled Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare and devastating neurodegenerative disorder with no known cure or treatment. He passed away 19 years ago, and though time has passed, the pain of his loss and the mission to fight this disease remain ever-present.
The CJD Foundation, a dedicated non-profit organization, is crucial in the fight against this disease. They work tirelessly to spread awareness, support families, fund research, and strive for a cure. When my father was diagnosed, our family faced immense uncertainty and distress. The foundation was there to support us through those dark times, and their efforts have brought significant progress in understanding and diagnosing CJD.
Thanks to the foundation’s work and powerful advocacy efforts, including the support of Akin Gump and bipartisan Congressional champions, we’ve seen promising advancements. The CDC and NIH have increased funding, and November 12th has been designated as International CJD Awareness Day. These milestones are a testament to the impact of our collective efforts.
I invite you to support this cause in one of the following ways:
- Join my team and help us fundraise
- Join my team as a non-fundraising participant
- Donate to our team
Here is my fundraising page: Support Jerry Yaffa’s Team
Your support will not only help us honor my father’s memory but also contribute to the foundation’s vital work. Every donation and participant helps move us closer to a world where CJD no longer devastates families.
Please feel free to reach out to me at syaffa@xtechs.com if you have any questions or need more information.

About Strides for CJD
Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Funds raised support our programs including:
- Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
- Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
- Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
