Why I run for Snow City Arts

- Snow City Arts inspires youth in Chicago area hospitals by helping them create and learn about art.

- Each year, Snow City Arts provides arts instruction to approximately 1,200 patients at Rush University Children’s Hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Children's Hospital University of Illinois, and Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital.

- Making art with a Snow City Arts teaching artist is an interesting, creative, engaging break from the reality of being ill and in the hospital. Snow City Arts’ teaching artists offer lets students choose to paint, draw, make music or a film, write poetry or a play.

- The hospital room becomes an artist studio or a film set or a recording studio, where students create new works and learn about technique, art theory and art history. Each session with a student is benchmarked to local and Common Core learning standards, and children who meet regularly with SCA can get classroom credit when returning to school.

- Instruction can be up to five times per week, either in one-on-one workshops at the bedside or group settings in our specially equipped medical-free zones called Idea Labs.
