5th Annual Teaneck Packathon for Haiti

Teaneck Packathon just keeps getting bigger! That's because more and more Haitian kids are enrolling in the Light and Peace Schools, and we like to keep up. Last year, the first 10 students graduated from the Trois Mares School. This year the first three graduated from the Chapottin school, all qualifying for further education. And more than 500 kids coming up through the grades. It's a new phenomenon for their communities. If you've given before, I hope you feel the gratitude flowing across the Caribbean Sea from all those families back to you. If you've helped pack school lunches (which motivate attendance like nothing else), you know how exciting it is to actually provide for students who might not eat all day without our help.

Amazing as the packathons are, with local people of all ages, faiths, ethnicities, political orientations etc working together, my favorite part is actually visiting Trois Mares and Chapottin, Haiti, In April, I asked a big crowd of kids, "Who reads better, you or your parents?" Every single child grinned and raised their hands. New this year, the parents organized to thank us because our partnership is helping their whole community in lots of ways.
