My son Bradley’s epilepsy journey began in 2016, when he had his first seizure at just five months old. As we searched for answers, we learned he carried an SCN1A genetic mutation. This diagnosis came with a lot of uncertainty. Though Bradley’s seizures were relatively controlled, we faced an unimaginable loss when he passed away from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) in January 2017. In the midst of that heartbreak, we discovered the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas and the incredible support, advocacy, and hope they provide to families like ours. Their work has become deeply meaningful to us, and our connection to their mission is rooted in honoring his life and helping others navigate the challenges of epilepsy.

My family’s involvement with the Epilepsy Foundation Texas and the Houston Walk is a way to honor Bradley’s life and ensure his story fuels progress, understanding, and hope.
