Dear Friends,
I founded TT1 in 2005 with the hopes of inspiring people affected by diabetes to chase their dreams and not be discouraged by the obstacles in their path.
We are now 170 athletes strong and, for the past several years, we have saved many, many lives in Rwanda by providing life-saving diabetes supplies and education. We fully believe sport has the power to change the world, and with the 170 individuals we have on board, we plan to do so, one life at a time.
For the next 8 days, I’m putting aside my “office work” and using my sport in a very unique way. I am biking almost 600 miles and climbing more than 53,000 feet through the Rocky Mountains with the Haute Route Rockies organization. I do not like to climb, but if I am going to ask you for support, then I might as well suffer for the dollars. And, there are several reasons why.
Where you were born should not dictate whether you live or die. I’m riding to raise money and bring awareness for those in the developing without access to insulin. I want them to have the life-saving supplies they need. I want them to live, and I want them to dream.
I’m riding for 102 US-based student athletes with diabetes - to raise money for their college scholarships. I don’t want to hear another story of a young person rationing insulin and falling ill because he’s afraid his parents can’t afford insulin AND tuition. These kids have the power to change lives, and your support helps empower them to inspire.
I’m riding for my best friend, Daniel, and his wife, Jackie. Cancer took Jackie from us earlier this Spring. I am riding in her honor which I hope will carry us over the mountains . I am fighting and raising money for equal access to medicine for all because Jackie would have wanted me to. Health was a passion of hers, as well, and she helped guide many kids into a lifetime of good health via the bike.
I am not asking you to support my nonprofit. I am very humbly asking you to support me, personally, and help bring health and happiness to my fellow diabetics. No amount is too small. Every penny is poweful. And, please share this page and give your family and friends the chance to join our fight.
Thank you for support and encouragement! With all my love and appreciation for my world-wide diabetes family,
Phil
