As you may know, I am training hard to race and win the Haute Route Pyrenees this year. In preparation for this, I raced Haute Route Alp d'huez and wore the leader jersey for 2 stages of the race and came in 2nd overall female and 38th in the General Classification. You may remember from my previous races that Haute Routeis named the highest and toughest cyclosportive in the world and last year in the Haute Route Rockies tour I was proud to have finished 5th in the female category against famous and inspirational athletes like Emma Pooley. This year I’m aiming for the win in order to again help build awareness about diabetes and support a great cause which is much bigger than myself! I am fundraising for Team Type 1, which is an organization which helps support diabetic children in Rwanda with equipment to make sure that their glucose/insulin stay at healthy levels. Team Type 1 is also supports a professional cycling team, where all members have Type 1 diabetes and manage the disease very closely because of the intensity of the sport. Their aim is to inspire others with Type 1 diabetes by showcasing what IS possible despite the condition and at the same time have intense focus on governmental solutions that ensure sustainable access to medicine and tools for people with diabetes in Rwanda and beyond.
