Friends,

My father, who recently passed, devoted the last 20 years of his life to raising funds to support youth with limited opportunities in our hometown of Sanford, NC. His example challenges me to do the same in RVA, my home. I serve on the Board of Virginia Mentoring Partnership (VMP) and we have a set goal to raise $50,000 by September 1. With these funds we will be able to increase the number of caring adults prepared to serve as mentors for the hundreds of youth who need one in this community and are about to go back to school.   

VMP supports mentoring programs across the state by providing training for mentors and staff, assisting with mentor recruitment, and in some cases even providing a staff member to increase capacity through our VISTA program. All of that support leads to stronger mentoring programs, as well as more mentors who are equipped with the tools they need to be someone a child can count on. I am incredibly proud of our staff and the work this organization does to ensure that every child in Virginia who wants or needs a mentor has one. I’m proud of the work we do to ensure that our program partners focus on quality mentoring and align with best practices. I want to help VMP achieve its goal of training 2000 mentors in the 2016-17 school year.
