Why we walk...

Jess Marie was born in 2004, and at 8 months of age had her first generalized tonic clonic seizure.  It lasted 17 minutes.  Two weeks later she had her second generalized tonic clonic seizure.  This seizure prompted EEG and CT scans, which confirmed her diagnosis of epilepsy. 

Jess lived for 3 years with intractable epilepsy.  She had multiple types of seizures with myoclonic jerks and generalized tonic clonic seizures afllicting her regularly.  She tried multiple medications, had a complete corpus callosotomy (in 2 separate surgeries), and tried the keto diet.  She was preparing to have the VNS implanted, but when Jess was 3 1/2 she had a seizure in her sleep that took her life.  

Jess' story is individual and yet we have met so many people and families who are on the similar journey.  Jess has been gone for over 13 years, but her legacy lives on.  We honor what she brought to our lives, in her fun, playful, sometimes stubborn, beautiful way, by participating in the walk, and by shedding light not only on epilepsy, but on intractable epilepsy, and death from epilepsy. 

She was the most beautiful brown eyed, blonde girl and we miss her every. single.day. Please consider a donation to our team, to help EFMN continue to offer support to all who are living with seizures.
