FAQs
Where is the event happening?
The Walk to Squash Hunger starts and ends at the trailhead located near Horseshoe Pavilion in Wheelock Park. The Harvest festival will take place here as well. Wheelock Park is located at 101 Park Ave. in Keene.
What time does the event start?
The start time for the event varies depending on which walk length you choose. Walkers are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes to an hour before their start time to give themselves time to check in, enjoy available refreshments and commune with fellow walkers. The start times are as follows:
9:00am – 10 Mile Walk
12:00pm -2.5 Mile Walk
1:00-4:00pm – Community Harvest Festival
Will the event be postponed if it rains?
No. However, you are never required to walk. If you don’t feel like coming out for whatever reason, we simply ask that you turn in your fundraising in advance or drop it off at The Community Kitchen the following week.
Where can I park when I arrive on the day of the event?
There are a few areas to park at Wheelock Park. There are spaces toward the back near the tennis courts. There are spaces near Symonds Elementary School, and there are also some spaces back near the bike park.
Is fundraising required?
Although we encourage you to fundraise, you are not required to. Your registration in the amount of $35 counts as your minimum funds raised, and you can then set a goal for a greater amount if you choose to. You will have until August 28, 2026, to complete your fundraising.
Can I fundraise with a team?
Yes, you certainly can fundraise with a team. This is a good idea for families, friends, schools, businesses, and other organizations. Please click here to fundraise as a team: LINK
Can I get a refund due to weather, or if I need to cancel?
Registration fees are non-refundable and may not be deferred to another year. The Walk to Squash Hunger takes place rain or shine.
What do I need to bring with me on the day of the event?
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a bottle of water. There will be aid stations along the way with volunteers offering water too. You may find things such as hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen helpful as well.
Do I have to start walking at a certain time on the day of the live event?
To make sure everyone returns on time and that safety precautions are in place, please leave at your designated time.
Can I complete the walk on my own?
Certainly! You can sign up for the Virtual Walk (LINK HERE) and choose your own distance…however you choose to reach your goal!
Can I attend the Community Harvest Festival if I don’t walk that day?
If you registered as a Virtual Walker, you can also join us at the Community Harvest Festival for a BBQ and some fun.
How do I get a shirt?
All registered participants, including Virtual Walkers, get a free Walk to Squash Hunger T-shirt once they reach $50 in fundraising—only $15 more than initial registration! If you will not be attending the Community Harvest Festival, you can arrange to pick up your shirt at The Community Kitchen.
How do I volunteer?
We rely on volunteers for a variety of tasks before, during, and after the event. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Vicki Pittman, or click here to see what group and individual volunteer opportunities are available.
Can I change my route after I register?
Please email aclinton@thecommunitykitchen if you need to change your route. You can also change your route in your Participation Center.
Are there restrooms along the routes?
There will be porta-potties located near the water/snack stops along your route. These locations will be marked on the maps we provide.
Do teams have to walk the same route?
No. You don’t all need to walk the same route to be considered a team. The routes are developed to have different levels of difficulty for different preferences. Please choose the one that’s right for you.
