Our journey with Maddie through the challenging terrain of autism continues. One organization has been alongside us every step of the way, with resources and services to make things – if not easy, then certainly easiER: the Central Coast Autism Spectrum Center. Maddie has enjoyed so many activities that CCASC has provided for her and for many, many others. From “Art on the Spectrum” to gymnastics freestyle & ninja classes, to great camp experiences and dances! And these are just the tip of the iceberg; so many others are offered that we simply can’t make them all.
The art classes inspired Maddie to spend more of her free time creating digital watercolor art. She’s really GOOD! She sold one of her first pieces at The Gala (another fundraiser for CCASC) for $100.00, and has sold other pieces to buyers from as far away as Sydney, Australia! She has also turned most of her works into small notecard sets which have sold well and put some cash in her pocket. (If you’d like some info on these, please email me at scrappylady@charter.net)
CCASC has given so much to Maddie, our family, and countless others impacted by autism here on the Central Coast. Now we have the opportunity to give something back.
On Sunday, May 5, 2019, CCASC will host their 11th annual Walk for Autism and Awareness Fair. At 12 noon, Mission Plaza in SLO will be filled with fun for people on and off the spectrum, including children's activities, food sales, vendor booths and music. The “Walk” portion of the event begins at 2:00 pm, and is a symbolic stroll through downtown SLO.
I’ll be walking with a team of my coworkers from San Luis Obispo Eye Associates in the event, and you are more than welcome to join our team!
