I have been Sailing for Others for the past 12 years.  Hospice and this supporting event have always been dear to my heart, but ever since the passing of my mother and father; it has taken on a whole new meaning and importance.  The help and support Hospice gave to my father and my mother during their final weeks, words cannot explain.  They are truly a wonderful organization and their care and compassion are without bounds.

Hospice of the Upstate is a non-profit Hospice.  The funds raised through this event hosted by Western Carolina Sailing Club are used to support patients without insurance and to help fund bereavement programs and other special programs offered by Hospice of the Upstate.

Hospice of the Upstate has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  See the excerpt below from one of their Community newsletters.

Quarantine isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s been a tough summer of coming to terms with new routines, canceling plans and missing out on sweet visits with family members. To say the least– quarantine is painful. But at Hospice of the Upstate, we are choosing to celebrate the small blessings - the prayers from our community, our wonderful and faithful healthcare heroes, and the support from our donors! As the Rainey Hospice House starts to fill with COVID positive patients, we are asking for your continued support, now more than ever. This national pandemic, along with purchasing proactive equipment for our clinical staff and the number of uninsured in the upstate has put us in a great need for financial donations. We made a vow long ago to support each and every community member - regardless of their financial situation. With your help, TOGETHER we can fight the COVID fight and provide care that is needed in such an unprecedented time. We are forever grateful to our local community and your continued support!
