What is the Walk & Roll for Hope? 

The Walk & Roll for Hope was started in 1970 and is the longest running walk fundraiser in Alaska. It was started as a way to raise funds to support the very first Hope Cottage (Now Hope Community Resources).  

When is the Walk & Roll for Hope? 

The Walk & Roll for Hope is held on the first Saturday of May each year, and was officially declared a “Day of Hope” by the governor in 1970. This year the walk will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Walks will happen in Anchorage, Kenai, and Kodiak.

Where does the money go?

Money raised in each region stays in that region to provide vital resources helping Hope assure individuals and families have access to affordable and secure housing and critical supports for community living.

What does it mean to be a Team Captain?

Team Captains help recruit and organize a team of walkers. With our step-by-step guide to leading your team, being a Team Captain is fun, easy, and incredibly impactful.

Is there a registration fee?

There is a $30 registration fee except for children 10 and under . All participants can pre-register and donate or raise funds for Hope Community Resources.  You will need an email address and password to register online. Raise just $75 (including registration fee)  and you get a free Walk T-Shirt. If you raise $500 you get a free Walk hoodie & t-shirt. Families should register an adult first and then add children. 

Can anyone participate?

Yes, of course! The Walk & Roll for Hope is open to the public. The walk-route itself is completely handicap-accessible.

Can I bring my pets?

Friendly, on-leash dogs who enjoy the lively, celebratory environment are welcome. Dogs must be leashed, up-to-date on vaccinations and in control at all times during the event. Please bring poop bags to clean up after your pet.

How do I start or join a team? 

Register here. Once registered you will be asked if you wish to start or join a team. Fundraising participants will have the option to create a personal fundraising page.

Can I bring my children and can they participate? 

The Walk & Roll for Hope is a family-friendly event. Parents should register first and then they will be prompted to register their children. Youths of all ages are welcome and to fundraise. Registration fees are required for all participants age 11 and up.

How do I add cash and checks to my online total?

  • Sign in using your user name and password and go to your fundraising dashboard
  • Click on donations on the left sidebar
  • Click on “enter donations of cash and checks”
  • Enter the donor information, the amount and print out pledge form for your records 
  • Amount will be added to your fundraising goal and total. Pledge payments (cash and checks) must be turned into Hope in advance of or the day of the walk with an online pledge form or sponsor sheet to receive credit. 

Who should checks be made to?

Checks should be made to: Hope Community Resources and can be mailed or dropped off at any Hope office. All donations are tax deductible and Hope Community Resources tax ID number is 92-0036594.

I am registered but not fundraising online-what do I do with cash and checks that I collect?

Download a pledge form here, Anchorage, Kenai, and Kodiak. and bring it to the Walk or to Hope office  in advance. If you receive cash or checks after the walk, please bring it to the local Hope office.

 How do I print out my gift history list?

Go to your Fundraising dashboard and click on “Reports” on the top toolbar to review and print all your donor history.

Can I register the morning of the walk? 

Yes! There will be on-site registration available day of event.

What if I cannot attend Walk for Hope but I want to raise funds? 

If you cannot attend we will miss you, but you can still register online as a fundraiser. You will still be eligible for the free t-shirt.

How long is the Walk & Roll for Hope? 

Each Walk varies from location to location. The Walk in Anchorage has a 16k bike or run course, a 5k walk course and a 1k Lite Walk. The Walk in Kenai is a 5k and Kodiak’s Walk is just under 3 miles.

Is there food available at the Walk? 

Yes, there will be complimentary morning refreshments and hot dogs after the Walk in Anchorage. Kenai and Kodiak have a BBQ after the Walk.  Additional giveaways are provided by our in-kind vendors and sponsors.

Where can I park when I participate in the Walk & Roll for Hope?
