As many of you might know I currently teach AP Human Geography at KIPP Houston High School. Aside from teaching, I am also the sponsor for The Woods Project Club at KHHS. The club meets every other Wednesday during lunch, and during this time we prepare students for our two week backpacking trip. Out of all the students in the club the school chooses 10 students to take with them during the summer to explore the wilderness and put the skills they learned throughout the year in practice. The cost of the trip is roughly $5,000, but because the organization fundraises up to 80% our students have to pay $675 in order to attend this once in a life time opportunity. The cost for our students can still be a lot due to family circumstances. Today my goal is to be able to fundraise $675, so one of our students can have the opportunity to go to the trip at no cost.
