My Personal Fundraising Page

Hi, I’m Michelle.

I am an 18-year breast cancer survivor and proud owner of dance studios where I have the privilege of working with incredible dancers and families every single day. Dance has always been about community, connection, expression, and resilience, and those same values make this campaign so meaningful to me.

In 2009, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy. Hearing the words “you have breast cancer” changes everything. But what makes the journey survivable — and in many cases, transformative — is support.

And that’s why I’m here.

Why This Cause Is Personal

I’m participating as a Big Wig in honor of myself and every woman who has ever faced a diagnosis.

I know firsthand the fear that comes with that moment. I know the uncertainty. I know the physical and emotional toll.

But I also know how powerful it is to feel supported.

Raising money for Carolina Breast Friends is deeply personal to me because I understand how life-changing that support can be. Knowing there is a community ready to show up, wrap you in encouragement, and walk alongside you can make an unimaginable season feel just a little more manageable.

No one should go through this alone.

What Being a Big Wig Means to Me

Being a Big Wig is an incredible honor.

It means turning my survivorship into action. It means helping create the kind of support system that I know makes all the difference. It means standing visibly and proudly so that others know hope is real.

If this campaign helps even one woman feel less afraid, less isolated, or more supported,  it’s worth every pink wig moment.

Why I Said Yes to the Wig

Where You’ll See Me in My Pink Wig

Everywhere.

I own dance studios, so I’ll be interacting with my dance families all month long — and yes, my dancers are getting involved too! We have an exciting lineup of events planned, including a huge festival on Saturday, April 25th, featuring performances, food, vendors, and family fun.

We’re also introducing pink hair extensions called “wiglets” for my dancers. Each dancer will have their own fundraising page, competing to raise the most support and win prizes. It’s going to be high-energy, high-impact, and full of heart.

And if you’re dining at Ilios Noche, there’s a good chance you’ll spot me there collecting support as well!

My Fundraising Strategy

I’m rallying my dance studios, friends, family, and community to make this happen. When dancers, parents, and supporters come together, there is incredible momentum.

This is about movement — not just on the dance floor, but in our community.
