Why I Support Women Helping Women Fund

Roxann Dempsey is WHWF’s most active table captain for our Annual Luncheon. She consistently fills up to six tables each year – more than any other supporter or corporation. When we had to cancel our Annual Lunch this year, she made the change from Table Captain to Volunteer Fundraiser with a fundraising goal of $5,000. We asked Roxann to share her WHWF story and “why” with us.

Marcy Drummond, a dear friend and one of the six founding members of WHWF, invited me to the first Annual Luncheon in 1993 and I haven’t missed any of the 27 luncheons since. I have continued my involvement after that first luncheon because I believe in their mission and understand the importance of supporting low-income women and children in our very own communities.

The funds raised at the luncheon each year go to support many needs in our region including scholarship support for women, childcare and educational opportunities, food and nutrition resources, training and mentoring for women, and so much more.

Attendees always look forward to the Annual Luncheon, but with COVID-19, WHWF worked to find an alternative way for us to continue our support with the Women Helping Women Resiliency Campaign. I have already joined the effort and I invite you to as well.

I will certainly miss seeing everyone at the Annual Luncheon this year, but look forward to when we can all come together again in 2021!
