In October 2022, my husband Curtis and I moved from Midcoast Maine to Ithaca. I had never been here before, and Curtis had been a student at Cornell 20 years prior. We started looking for houses, but the market at the time was wicked crazy. By February 2023, we were both fried from being outbid, so we decided to stop looking. Curtis, however, saw a property come into his email from our realtor and said we should look at it. I was a little skeptical at first, but when I saw pictures of it, I thought we have to see it. We put in an offer and ended up being the only offer. The house was an estate sale. When we moved into the house in April 2023, we saw that there were additional keys on a Hospicare key ring. Over the last year, we have learned so much about the woman who lived here before us -- Dr. Clare Fewtrell -- who passed of ovarian cancer on October 7, 2022, seven days after we moved to the area. I am dedicating my swim to Clare and to the wonderful people who cared for her at Hospicare.
