I started this fundraising page in he hopes of bringing together two things that I am passionate about: Surfing and Mentoring. During this time, coaching soccer and team sports have been off the table for me, so I found a way that could help out a great organization that mentors and coaches at risk youth in San Diego. Piggybacking off their "100 wave challenge", I decided that I wanted to hold an informal surf contest, inviting some of the best surfers from the clairemont/pb (ten of them)area to compete while raising money for charity. The format and date for the event is still under construction, so watch this space. I hope you can join me in supporting Boys to Men for the 2020 school year.
Surf Your ♥ Out
I am taking the 100 Wave Challenge for Boys to Men in order to support their efforts to bring positive male mentorship to hundreds of young men in San Diego County.
Boys to Men Mentoring is a nonprofit organization faciliating consistent group mentoring for hundreds of fatherless, at-risk, and disconnected teenage boys in San Diego County. Before the pandemic, Boys to Men was serving over 800 boys with the support of 35 school and community partners across the county.
Due to COVID-19, Boys to Men has been working tirelessly to keep the boys connected to their mentors. In April, Boys to Men created a weekly virtual mentoring program and are also working with all of their school partners to reestablish as many in-school groups by Fall 2020 as possible.
There is nothing more powerful than giving a person a community of support and the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. I hope to do that this year by attempting to catch 100 waves in one day to raise money and awareness for Boys to Men.
