This will be my 13th attempt to catch 100 Waves. I am part of the OG Surfers, men who have done this event every year.  It does get harder as I get older but the gratification is still the same knowing I am helping to change lives. 

It is cool to think that this all started 15 years ago for me when B2M asked to start a school group at my school, Spring Valley Middle. I retired at the end of June after 34 years as a school counselor and I am continuing to volunteer with Boys to Men.  We had our first meeting with the boys last Thursday at my old school and 40 boys showed up.  I am looking forward to being there every Thursday to meet with the boys.  The group provides a safe place for the boys to share and realize they are not alone in their struggles. Most of these boys do not have a positive male role model in their lives.  We have seen the negative consequences if boys are left to grow up without guidance. I have seen first hand the difference Boys to Men can make in so many lives.  There is nothing more powerful than surrounding a young man with a community of support and giving him the opportunity to reach his full potential

B2M is returning to more schools and we are getting close to our pre-pandemic numbers.  The number of boys we serve is directly connected to our fundraising efforts and the 100 Wave Challenge is 55% of our budget.  Your support will help us fulfill our mission.  We are going to be in 30 schools this year and our goal is 50 schools next year.  Your support means a lot to me personally and it truly changes lives.  Check out the videos on my page and boytomen.org to hear how effective Boys to Men is in the lives of the boys we serve. The OG Surfers will be paddling out to catch our waves on November 5th at Scripps in La Jolla.  We will also be having a culmination event November 12 in Mission Beach.
