100 Wave Challenge x2

We, Jake and Chris, are committing to taking the 100 Wave Challenge for Boy to Men Mentoring in a different way this year - as a son and step-father duo. Here's why:

In 1994, my stepfather Chris was diagnosed with a rare disease called Castleman's disease. When diagnosed, he was only given 3-5 years to live, yet 30 years later, Chris is a walking miracle. Nonetheless, because of the disease's effects on Chris' lungs and blood cells which are not oxygenated properly, Chris is unable to take part in his passion of surfing without becoming dangerously out of breath.

For this reason, I will be participating in the 100 wave challenge this year twice; first for the main event on September 28th at Mission Beach, and second in October at Cardiff Reef, at our home break on Chris' behalf. In the meantime, Chris will also be training to catch a few waves at the end to close off our 200 wave journey.

Why are we doing this?

First, my stepfather Chris has played an instrumental role in caring for and mentoring me into the man I am today, so we thought it would be fitting to team up, surf & fundraise in support of the many young fatherless boys who need guidance, mentoring, and love. Furthermore, we strongly believe in the mission of Boys to Men to counteract this growing problem.

Boys to Men Mentoring is a nonprofit organization facilitating consistent group mentoring for the fatherless, at-risk, and disconnected teenage boys of San Diego County. Through strategic partnerships with local middle schools, high schools, and community partner locations, Boys to Men connects teenage boys with compassionate mentors who provide the encouragement, empowerment, and accountability they need to thrive.

There is nothing more powerful than surrounding a young man with a community of support and giving him the opportunity to reach his fullest potential. We hope to do that this year by attempting to catch 100  200 waves in order to raise money and awareness for Boys to Men.

Please consider making a donation to our page and help us support these young men who are working to be the best they can be!

Kind Regards,

Jake & Chris
