At 37 weeks pregnant, I went to my local GP due to bad headaches. Throughout my entire pregnancy my blood pressure was perfect up until this visit at my GP. I was sent to the hospital and admitted straight away where I had chronic hypertension and an abnormal CTG was shown meaning that my baby could soon become distressed. After my bloods were taken, results showed that my levels were all out of whack. I had low platelets and my kidneys were starting to fail. An emergency c section took place the very next day and I got to meet my beautiful and healthy baby girl, Isla. After the c section, I was transferred to ICU where I was put on a drip administering Magnesium Sulfate due to the severity of the preeclampsia, this was fo prevent strokes and seizures. After 6 days in hospital (which felt like a lifetime) I finally got to take my perfect little girl home, provided I buy a blood pressure machine to take my BP every 4 hours and continue on 2 lots of blood pressure medication. Isla and I are now thriving after being cared for by such amazing doctors who saved our lives. After the storm that was my birth, my gorgeous girl was worth every single bit of it! I now have my best friend by my side every day, my sweet girl Isla. I want to give Isla brothers and sisters so she has lifelong friends to grow up with but I'm petrified of possibly putting my life on the line in future pregnancies and leaving Isla without a mother. This thought haunts me. This disease scares me and has traumatised me despite the beautiful part that got to give me 3 extra weeks with Isla earthside. When the time comes for isla to give me grand babies, I pray that research has well beyond made this life threatening disease a thing of the past. Preeclampsia happens and it is scary.
