This team is in memory of my dad — Team Johnny.
My dad lived with Parkinson’s disease for over 15 years. Through all the difficulty, changes, and heartbreak that came with this disease, there was always one person I saw as my superhero: my DAD.
He worked hard his entire life for his family. He gave his time, his energy, and his strength to provide for us, alongside his equally passionate and powerful wife. He was strong, capable, hardworking, and astonishingly vibrant.
As he grew older, his steps became slower, his stature became bent, and his fight with Parkinson’s became harder. It was incredibly difficult to watch a disease take away pieces of the man who had always seemed so strong. But even as Parkinson’s changed him, it never changed the things that mattered most. He remained a loving husband, a devoted father, and the most caring and committed Vavô.
Later, when he was diagnosed with metastatic cancer to his bones, he faced yet another battle with incredible courage and strength. Even during the heaviest moments of his life, he continued to teach me.
He taught me how to be strong when life feels unbearable. He taught me to be caring and brave. He taught me to keep smiling, even when it feels like the only way to fight your way out of the dark.
My dad is no longer here for me to walk beside, but I will carry him with me through every step.
