My name is Diane Foley.
I invite you to join the our 12th annual James W Foley Freedom 5k Walk/Run in celebration of our 250 years of freedom, for those who are not free, for brave journalists who dare to bring us the truth, and for unity in our country.
Jim was the oldest of our 5 children. He grew up in New Hampshire, aspired to be a man of moral courage and make a difference for good in our world. He was a teacher in Teach for America and writer before becoming a conflict report. Jim reported from Afghanistan and Iraq as an embedded journalist with our troops before becoming a freelance journalist in Libya and Syria.
He was kidnapped by ISIS in 2012, tortured, starved and beheaded in 2014 since the United States chose not to negotiate with the terrorists holding him captive. Three weeks after his murder, I started the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation to advocate for fellow Americans held captive abroad and promote journalist safety worldwide, while inspiring ourselves and others to be people of moral courage. Since 2015, more than 200 fellow Americans have been freed and hundreds of aspiring journalists are protected by safety education.
To learn more: Watch "Jim:the James Foley story" documentary and/or read my book, "American Mother" written with Colum McCann.
To help the Foley Foundation advocate for US nationals held captive abroad and promote journalist safety, please JOIN my team "FOLEY FREEDOM TEAM". or donate to my page.
THANK YOU FOR CARING AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR OTHERS!!
SINCEREST GRATITUDE,
DIANE
