Three years ago, in a Russian prison, my legs were numb and swollen from lack of use. Then they started running. One step became a jog, then a run — a spontaneous circle around a tiny perimeter. I wasn’t a prisoner. I was alive. I was free in motion.

Join Team ALSU for the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation Freedom Run 2026. It honors journalists like James Foley, who was killed in 2014 for bearing witness. This is the smallest thing we can do for freedom — and for the safety of journalists. Freedom is not given. We run for it.
