Vacation time usually means something fun and relaxing. But for Malcolm Wills and his family, a 2023 trip to New England was cut short by an unexpected medical emergency that required brain surgery and a lengthy stay in intensive care.
Once he was stable, Malcolm transferred to Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware to continue his recovery. Malcolm needed to relearn everything from sitting up to walking to jumping.
Over the following months, both inpatient and through outpatient rehabilitation, he worked closely with physical, occupational and speech therapists, while also staying on track with daily lessons in our hospital school program.
Today, Malcolm is a healthy, active 11-year-old who enjoys playing sports with his friends. His progress reflects his hard work, his family’s involvement, and the coordinated medical care he received from his team at Nemours Children’s.
Malcolm and his family are grateful for the care they received, and for having that support close to home when they needed it most.
