In my teenage years, I began to educate myself about the suffering that animals endure for the countless industries surrounding us that profit from their suffering. Once my eyes became open to this brutal reality, I had to do something about it.

6 years ago, I went vegan for the animals. Since that day I made the decision to stop supporting any industry that hurts animals, I’ve made it my life mission to do anything I could to fight for their freedom and end their suffering.

In the beginning of my journey of compassion, I didn’t even understand how bad it is for animals in this country. Although I knew that animals were heavily used and consumed, like many Canadians, I had no idea our country didn’t even have anything close to the basic laws needed to protect animals from cruelty and abuse. I was shocked to learn that Canada has some of the worst animal protection laws in the western world.

While many countries around us continue to enact better welfare laws for animals, the Canadian government continues to slam the door in the face of the animals who desperate need protection.

Last year, I started my dream job with Animal Justice. I work with a dedicated team of lawyers that too have made it their life mission to fight for the rights of animals, and protect them from suffering.

Animal Justice is fighting to transform Canada’s legal and political system—to bring them into the 21st century— and bring much needed protections to the countless animals used for food, entertainment, fashion, research, as pets, and all animals that suffer at the hands of industries.

That’s why on October 13, I will be taking a 24 hour vow of silence to raise awareness for the animals who are silenced by industries, courts, and by politicians in this country.
