I feel fortunate that ever since my diagnosis, I have had resources available to me. Material provided. by APDA was in my Drs office. It told me where there was an exercise class for PD. It was taught by a very capable team of women who were active APDA members They gave me a solid start. I attended my first conference and I was hooked on receiving practical information about what I could do do deal with this new challenge in my life. The years that have past have brought improvements and expansion of services provided Support groups, exercise classes, on line newsletters with ever changing topics. Most everything is offered at no charge.
Over time I have had friends who could no longer drive. If they lived close many were able to continue to join in socially or exercise. If not, they came less and less. Some people may still drive but the distance to exercise and support groups is difficult. I know how important my classes are, both physical and social. I want APDA to have the resources to expand on what they have been doing well. It comes down to money. I know the interest and will is there to reach rural areas but it takes money. I hope you are able to join me in raising as much money as we can to help reach our Parkinson family members who have needs.
