This year is different... let's show mom how her legacy lives on.
I’m walking to make a difference for the Parkinson’s disease (PD) community in RI. Every year since diagnosis, mom walked for optimism and to support services in RI. Our family would love your support this year as we walk in her memory.
Through her local RI APDA chapter, mom attended support groups and workshops on how to live with Parkinson's. She learned about exercise programs like BIG & LOUD and boxed her heart out with fellow friends battling the disease. These services allowed her to live fully for over 10 years post diagnosis.
I also benefited from their services - as caretaking became my second job, I relied on workshops, virtual support groups, and online communities to learn the tricks and best practices of caretaking during late stages of Parkinson's. It takes a village and mom was lucky to be surrounded by loving family and caretakers that final year that the disease progressed. They helped her move on days that were tough. She could still light up a room with her energy and enthusiasm as we would scream out loud like Harrison Ford in Shrinking, " F#%* Parkinson's."
