I have worked for Acts4Youth for nearly 10 years.  I have seen the program grow and evolve into what it is today.  Although I do not work directly with the students, I am constantly hearing the great stories that come from the program staff.  This work can be challenging due to several factors such as broken families and a difficult school system.  But when our staff sits down one-on-one or in small groups with the students, amazing things happen.  We have just begun a new tutoring program which is so desperately needed.  

In the fall, Olivia, Acts4Youth’s tutor, ascertained that “H” doesn’t like reading because he doesn’t think he is a good reader. Research shows that falling behind in reading and feeling like a failure can take a large toll on kids and cause them to lose all desire to learn or go to school. But, since working with Olivia, he is making great strides in the classroom. He recently had an a-ha! moment when he figured out how to break words apart to help him sound them out. Now he is excitedly reading posters in the classroom, engaging in small group learning, and raising his hand to answer questions.
