About The Walk

The Cape and Islands Suicide Awareness Walk is a three mile (5k) loop walk in Hyannis, Cape Cod, MA on Saturday, May 22, 2021 beginning at 10 am. *Please note: Town of Barnstable prohibits dogs within the Veterans Park Beach.*

All proceeds go to four local non-profits; the Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands, the Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition, NAMI of Cape Cod & The Islands, and Sharing Kindness, Inc. to provide education and advocacy for suicide prevention.

Registration is online and also available on-site the morning of the walk beginning at 8.30 am. There is a registration fee of $10.

While this is an in-person event, we are always happy to offer a "virtual-walker" option. Virtual participants are encouraged to raise money online and walk the three mile (5k) loop on their own.

What To Expect

  • Education materials will be available before and after the walk. Water and other refreshments will be available for walkers for free and for purchase.

  • All walkers who raise $25 qualify for an END THE SILENCE T-shirt. T-shirts will be safely distributed in individual bags at walk check-in. For Virtual Walkers, T-shirts will be mailed upon qualification after May 9.

  • We are pleased to offer "Yoga For Grief and Loss" before the walk. Join us on the beach at 9am for this healing yoga class focused on breath work, meditation, and gentle movement. No yoga experience is necessary for this 30-minute time of restoration and reflection. Towels or yoga mats are highly encouraged.

Why You Walk

Everyone has a story. If you are open to sharing, please post your reason for walking on Facebook or Instagram by using the hashtag #LetsTalkCC .

If you would like to honor someone at the walk who you have lost to suicide, please consider bringing a photo or other important reminder of your loved one to the walk for our Memory Walls. The photo or item will be returned to you at the end of our event.
