As most of you know, our sweet Callie was diagnosed with a severe congenital heart defect about 18 hours after she was born. In the quickest terms, she had a gap in an artery proventing adequate bloodflow. This was not something that was detected during pregnancy and was something that ultimately changed our lives in a single second. We were blessed to get 52 hours with our angel before she passed away from coronary artery atresia.
My goal for this fundraising and heartwalk is to bring AWARENESS and SUPPORT for earlier detection of congenital heart defects. My goal is for NO other families to feel the pain and loss that we have felt. My goal is that through fundraising, there will be a method of detection in the future that would catch the type of detect that Callie had. I know that what she has is rare, but WHAT IF earlier detection allowed her to have a team of surgeons standing by to perfom surgery. WHAT IF earlier detection allowed us to be in the best place possible for her to have a CHANCE at life.
This year, I'm walking with extra purpose as The Children's Heart Foundation celebrates 30 incredible years of funding research that saves lives and changes futures. My commitment to making a difference has led me to participate in the Congenital Heart Walk, an event that carries immense significance for me—especially knowing that for three decades, CHF has been the leading force behind the treatments and surgical advances that help children with congenital heart defects thrive.
It's not just a walk; it's a stride toward the next 30 years of hope. This endeavor is all about supporting The Children's Heart Foundation's crucial mission—advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research that improves survival rates, reduces complications, and helps Heart Warriors celebrate more birthdays than ever before.
