My Writing Goals

I have two major goals for the Write-a-Thon:

1. Write a 3,000-word story by June 22. [DONE]

2. Finish writing my novel by July 09. [DONE]

 

Other goals, if my energy and health permit:

1. Write a 20-page story by July 30

2. Write a 10-page story by July 30

3. Write the first half of a new novel by July 30.

The first paragraph of the first chapter of my first novel.

Assumpta was born at five minutes past midnight, right in the middle of August 1950. Her mother, Margarita del Nuncio, was already past her forties and had already given birth to six other children prior. One of the children died when he was seven, after contracting complications from polio. After Assumpta was born Margarita swore to her husband Jacobo Arguelles that this daughter would be the last, and that she would no longer allow her husband to sleep in her bedroom from then on. Jacobo, a man who had been raised by a family of Arguelles matriarchs who used the centuries in perfecting the art of pushing their men around, simply nodded his agreement.
