About Edible Schoolyard NYC
We’re Edible Schoolyard NYC, a nonprofit organization on a mission to make edible education accessible for every child in NYC. We believe edible education—where children experience hands-on cooking and gardening—helps them gain the skills to contribute to a healthy and sustainable food system for us all.
The challenge:
- Too many children do not regularly consume enough fruits and vegetables.
- Lower income neighborhoods and communities of color face increased challenges around access to healthy food.
- Open space and recreation areas can be scarce in NYC.
Through hands-on cooking and gardening classes, we support students in healthy eating, foster social emotional skills, promote academic growth, connect students to the environment and each other, and so much more.
Annually, our programs reach over 4,000 NYC students directly across over 30 public schools.
Your support gets kids planting in gardens and cooking in classrooms. Together we’re helping students build healthy relationships with food, their community, and their environment.
