I’m walking in honor of both my sons, Emmett and Ozzy, who are heart warriors. Shortly after they were born, we learned they each had congenital heart defects that would require care, monitoring, and in Ozzy’s case, early intervention.
Ozzy was diagnosed with a large ventricular septal (VSD) defect that made it difficult for his tiny body to breathe and grow. At just weeks old, he underwent open heart surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Today, I’m so grateful to share that he is doing incredibly well. He continues to grow stronger every day and truly thrive. While he will be monitored throughout his life, we are not seeing any indication of ongoing issues, which is something we once only hoped and prayed for.
Emmett’s journey looks a little different. He has a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) that will be repaired later this year through a catheter-based procedure. While we are hopeful for a smooth and successful outcome, we know firsthand how important expert care, research, and support are during moments like these.
That’s why this walk means so much to me. It’s not just about raising money, it’s about giving children like Emmett and Ozzy the chance to grow, thrive, and live full, healthy lives.
