In August of 2016, our good friends Ariel and Ross lost their daughter Sydney to stillbirth at 41 weeks. I knew that Ariel had gone into labor and was anxiously awaiting the news of Sydney's arrival. Instead, I received a very different phone call - I remember being in my office and breaking down into tears.
Prior to their experience, I knew of many other friends and acquaintances who had experienced pregnancy loss, but was unaware of the staggering statistics. One in every 160 American pregnancies ends in stillbirth, and more babies are stillborn every year than die from prematurity and SIDS combined.
