Please support my efforts to raise funds for metastatic breast cancer research!
I'm raising money for #LightUpMBC to benefit METAvivor!
Every day 117 people in the U.S. die of metastatic breast cancer (MBC), also known as Stage 4, where the breast cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Funding MBC research is the only way to find a cure!
ABOUT ME
I was diagnosed with Stage 3C breast cancer in December of 2018 and then Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in December of 2021. That's when I met Katrina Del Rosario who was already diagnosed Stage 4 TNBC with mets to the brain too. We were both from the Philippines and spoke same native language in Pampanga - one of the province near Manila. I was really scared because I knew very little about of Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC). Katrina helped me learn more about what to expect with my radiation (gamma knife) side effects, and everything about MBC. She was 33 back then with 2 young kids just like me.
In July 2024 of this year, she went on vacation in Europe and when she returned she discovered that her brain mets were 150+ tumors. Katrina was trying to go to a clinical trial in Dana Faber & MSK but unfortunately she didn't qualify since the tumors weren't stable. I miss my friend dearly.
This is my first time writing about my experience with MBC. I have been to many conferences now to educate myself in Philly and SABCS in San Antonio. I have learned a lot from patients like me about this disease I have. I'm a single mom now and happy with my two young kids who are 10 and 12 years old. I work part time at Walgreen's pharmacy as a pharmacy technician and I love the work that I do.
When I hear other thrivers story it gives me hope.
WHAT IS #LightUpMBC ?
The #LightUpMBC campaign is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research to benefit METAvivor. Held annually in October, the campaign partners with hundreds of iconic landmarks around the world to illuminate in the symbolic MBC awareness colors of green, teal, and pink. By uniting patients, families, and supporters, #LightUpMBC shines a spotlight on the urgent need for more research and resources to improve outcomes for MBC patients.
#LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. Hosted annually on October 13 on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, this live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research. #LightUpMBC Live provides a platform for education and advocacy, highlighting the urgency of funding scientific breakthroughs for the most advanced stage of breast cancer.
