Oakley was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia back in December, 2021 - a form of bone marrow failure. Since then, she has endured nearly 70 platelet/blood transfusions, chemotherapy/radiation, immunotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, and a few really unfortunate weeks/months filled with liver toxicity, a PICU stay, intubation, GVHD, and a pretty invasive infection.

She is my favorite super hero.

I'm very excited to be participating in the “Young Heroes 5K Run & Walk" on October 23, 2022, to raise funds for the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Nemours Children's Health.  

This particular event resonates deeply within me, as my now 3 year old daughter has endured her own battle with severe aplastic anemia.
