Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Participants,

We are so excited about our upcoming 2022 Young Heroes 5K Run and Walk! We will come together to raise funds for children with cancer or a blood disorder while having fun with surprise guests, music, food, family activities, and a special Hero Parade saluting our heroes in the hospital.

We know you are excited to get started, and you might have a few questions. Below are frequently asked questions, but feel free to reach out for additional information.

Why does everyone get a fundraising link?
The event was created to bring awareness for childhood cancer and blood disorders, but also to raise funds for the Nemours Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. We encourage every team to fundraise at least $100 to support the NCCCBD.  For each participant who registers by September 1st will receive an event shirt, and every participant who raises $100 or more, will be receive a Nemours branded beanie.

I’m afraid to ask people for money. How can I reach my fundraising goal?
We know that it is not always easy to ask someone for money but remember the reason. 100% of the funds raised during the event will help support kids with cancer and blood disorders. It will help fund programs such as sibling day, bereavement support, genetic counseling, child life, and research. A quick way to reach your $100 goal is to ask! Update your fundraising page with YOUR why and send your link via email and social media to friends, family, and co-workers.

My child passed away. Are we still welcome to participate?
Absolutely! Young Heroes is an event to honor those who are here with us and children who have passed. We hope you create a team in memory of your child and are welcome to submit a photo to line the route with one of our Hero Boards.

Why would I want to form a team?
Forming a team is a terrific way to build excitement with your friends, family, teammates, schoolmates, community organizations, or co-workers. Teams often help motivate each other to fundraise and create fun experiences with team t-shirts or by setting up team areas for the day of the event team gatherings. Nemours likes to recognize our amazing teams by offering the top fundraising team the opportunity to lead the parade and other fun incentives along the way!

What makes a good team?

Teams can be made up of family and friends, school organizations, church groups, sports teams, fraternities and sororities, and company employees. Each member on the team will fundraise individually to help reach your team goal.

Are there team incentives? Yes!
1). The top fundraising team on October 13, 2022, at 12 PM will have their team’s name on a route sign on the 5k course.

2). The top fundraising team on October 21, 2022, at 12 PM will start the 5k.

3). The first 20 teams that register will receive a special Nemours gift.

Who is your hero?
We will be lining the event route with pictures of patients from Nemours. To include your hero, please email a clear, individual horizontal photo of your hero to Keiona Garnett - keiona.garnett@nemours.org by October 10, 2022.

Can my team lead the parade?
The top fundraising team for each parade start time will lead the parades. It is not too late to make the leaderboard. Every dollar your team members raise will help bring your team to the top!

Are there any restrictions on dressing up for the event?
We love seeing all the fun superhero costumes and signs, but please refrain from displaying signs, symbols, or language that may be offensive to others present at the event. Nemours reserves the right to request that individuals or groups remove from view items that are offensive and/or deny participation in the event for those groups or individuals who do not comply.

Now it’s time to put your fundraising capes on!

Here are two helpful tips when fundraising:

1. Remember the reason. You are fundraising to support kids with cancer, sickle cell, or blood disorders. That is powerful and courageous! 100% of the funds raised during the event will support programs such as sibling day, bereavement support, genetic counseling, child life and research, and more.

2. Make the ask! You will be surprised at how many people will want to help support a cause you are so enthusiastic about. A quick way to reach your $100 goal is to use your fundraising link. Update your fundraising page and share why you registered for the event or share our Ambassador’s stories to inspire your readers. Then send your link via email and social media to friends, family, and co-workers and watch the donations come in!

Remember that anyone who raises $100 will receive a Nemours branded beanie!
