I am excited to once again join Team Girl Power 2 Cure for the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend in honor of my Princess Caroline!
Caroline was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome at 3.5 yrs old. I remember the day like it was yesterday, all the things you dream about when you have a little girl were gone with 4 words "she has Rett Syndrome".
We dusted our selves off, after the initial shock and now take life one day at a time. We celebrate every milestone she hits. We value every skill she was able to retain.
She has had another great, and even though its been a crazy one for our family, she takes on life like a CHAMP!
I have been part of the Girl Power 2 Cure team for the past three years. Every year I try to push myself a bit more, and try to recruit new team members. Its the least I can do, to raise awareness and research funds towards a CURE for this severe neurological disorder that affects my sweet girl and so many others. Last years donations helped us fund several successful research projects that have shed new light on decreasing stereotypical behaviors of Rett Syndrome and has moved us closer to finding a cure!
I have many dedicated friends who have run with me the past few years, and have even recruited some new ones this year. The support of “our ever growing village” is amazing!
