One Grade At A Time

Staff Housing

Competitve Wages and Benefts help us to attract quality staff. A Staff Compound creates a supportive FCS Culture and helps to raise the awareness of morality in the living environment. Additionally, some of our best teachers come from all around Zambia. They may not be accustomed to rural environment, but they are willing to come if they have a place to live. While single teachers can share a house for awhile, many plan to marry within a few years and will bring their spouse to the village.Others arrive with younger family members to cook and do housework. This year alone, we need to build five houses as soon as possible to meet the current need.

Classrooms

A few years back, we transformed a warehouse (that once housed the original preschool) into a bright and cheerful western style cafeteria. For children, that are more accustomed to eating outside rarely have used the space for it's purpose. Last year we improved our kitchen and created outdoor insakas (A traditional Bemba term for a "place to gather," typically structured as a circular, open-sided, thatched-roof gazebo). To fill the need for next year's classroom space, we're converting the building into multiple classrooms and storage space. This project will need to be done during August when the students are on a term break.
